Workshops and multi-week classes focused on providing students with the foundation needed to write comedy television.
Finally Finish that Pilot
The Upright Citizens Brigade Television Writing Program offers aspiring writers a comprehensive curriculum focused on the art and craft of comedic TV writing. Through courses, workshops, lectures and Q&A's from industry experts, participants learn key elements designed to give students a strong foundation in TV writing.
Our curriculum includes lessons on character development, story structure, comedic timing, and even how to create a pitch deck for your completed pilot. These courses are guided by experienced instructors with a background in television writing and comedy.
In this course, you will take an idea from a pitch all the way to a polished draft of your very own half hour pilot, getting feedback at each step as you go through this tough but really rewarding process. We'll talk about elements of a strong pilot concept, character creation, outline structure, and how to write believable dialogue. And we'll do it in a supportive workshop environment where you'll be giving feedback on other projects as you work on your own.
Writing for Animation
In this class students will develop their idea for an animated television series; taking it from initial concept to fully fleshed out pitch document. Along the way students will learn the fundamentals of how these shows are created and how writing for them differs from traditional live action. We’ll cover crafting a strong core concept, creating fully realized animated characters, building out the world of your show and more.
Writing an Audio Comedy Series
This course will introduce students to the audio comedy series AKA "the narrative podcast." Students will develop their pitch, craft an outline, and write a full script for a 15-minute audio series pilot. In each session, students will learn how to best activate their story within the audio medium. The class will break down the writing process into easily achievable weekly goals and workshop assignments in a supportive and fun environment.
