UCB Hip Hop Source Awardz
January 27 @ 10:00 pm - 11:00 pm
From the 1994 – 2001, The Source Awards were held to celebrate the best Hip Hop and R&B artists of the year. Some of the most influential and controversial events often took place at these awards: Onyx shooting live ammo during their set, Suge Knight igniting the East Coast/West Coast beef, and an audience-wide fight clearing out the 2000 awards in Pasadena, in which the city banned the show from ever coming back. With no Networks willing to air the show, and no venue willing to host it, the Source Awards have become only a memory. Until now!
The idea is that UCB is hosting the 2023 Source Awards for the new Hip Hop generation. It would be a setup like an actual awards show with hosts, celebrity presenters, award winners, musical performances and, of course, beef. This gives black and brown performers/writers the chance to do some of their favorite rap impressions as well as introduce their own original Rap or R&B characters and songs.
Will Kanye “Ye” West and the Black Israelites get the show canceled? Will Meg the Stallion unveil her new and improved robotic foot? Will Joe Buden show up just to be a hater? Will Tekashi 6ix9ine and Gunna form a new rap snitch duo?
