John Phillips is a writer and actor who has been performing in New York since 2002.
John studied sketch comedy writing under Charlie Sanders at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater and has written, directed, and performed in long-running shows at UCB such as 2006's Animals We Knew and 2007's Teenager High! John's latest show, The Worst Guy Ever, starts its run at UCB in January 2010.
As a writer, John has developed film and TV projects for The Weinstein Company, Crossroads Productions, Primary Productions, and Polsky Films. His first feature-length screenplay, Hairband, is currently in development with Polsky Films and Wayne's World director Penelope Spheeris.
As an actor, John has appeared on MTV, the CW, Fuse and G4.
John is a founding member of the award-winning sketch comedy group Trophy Dad, a mainstay in New York's comedy scene. With Trophy Dad, John has performed all over the country, including multiple appearances at the San Francisco Comedy Festival, Chicago Sketchfest, The Best of the Best Sketchfest in Portland, and the D.C. Comedy Festival, where his film Factor 5 Razors won the top prize at College Humor's short film festival. John has also performed stand up at top venues all over the city, including Gotham Comedy Club and Stand Up NY.
John is a graduate of Yale University where he was the head writer and director of Yale's oldest sketch comedy group, The Fifth Humour. He was also a political columnist for the Yale Daily News, with only five of his profanity-laced articles ever making it to print.
