Please read all information carefully. Procedures and Maude policies have changed from previous auditions. What is a Maude Team: Maude Teams are house sketch teams formed by the UCBT. Maude Teams consist of 6 writers & 6 actors. Some teams will have a member that serves as both an actor and writer. A Director, hired by the team oversees the writing and production of the teams monthly show. Each Team will produce a monthly show that is a professionally performed review of the best material being created by the team each month.  Maude Shows will also feature sketches that have already been seen, but substantially revised or developed. The Show Each Maude Team will create a monthly show. Maude Night is Monday Nights, 9:30pm at the Chelsea Theatre. Maude Night Shows are 25-30 minutes. Shows are not allowed to exceed 30 minutes. Shows consist of new material written by the team specifically for Maude Night, or Rewritten Material that previously made its debut on Maude Night but has been revised since its original performance. Maude Night will consist of the BEST material created. Writers are not guaranteed to have material performed. These rules are in place to emulate the competitive and professional atmosphere of televisions shows like Conan and SNL, while still holding onto a supportive and team based process. Teams will hire a Director (approved by the AD) to decide what material will be chosen. Directors , while hired by the team, function as the head writer and authority in rehearsals and should be treated as such.  Directors are responsible for choosing the best sketches, even if that means not every writer has a sketch in the show. Directors are paid by the Maude Teams (part of monthly dues) SCHEDULE Maude Teams meet twice a week for writers meetings or actor rehearsals. The following meetings are mandatory for every Maude Team Pitch Meeting, 3 Writers Meeting, 1 Read Through/Actor Rehearsal, 2 Actor Rehearsals, 1 Tech Rehearsal, The Show. Additional time may be required, this is up to the individual team. Maude Shows are Mondays, 9:30pm Since Maude Teams have to be available Mondays for shows, it is HIGHLY ENCOURAGED that Maude Teams make Monday’s one of their writers meetings/Actor Rehearsal days.  This will make your lives easier. Maude Tech Rehearsals are scheduled Thursdays after Cage Match, and Sunday’s during the day (if available) , or after Asssscat. Late Night rehearsals (besides Techs)  are strongly discouraged. Actors/Writers have a low level of energy and are not in peak condition late at night, so the work accomplished is sub par and this will affect the show. WRITERS: Writers must attend all Maude Team Meetings and rehearsals. Writers must produce 1 new sketch every week. Writers must rewrite sketches based on feedback from writers meetings. Writers must  provide feedback on other teammate’s material and be an active participant in the writer's room. Writer will cast their sketch when it is approved by the director to be part of that month’s show. Writer is responsible for coordinating all necessary props, costumes and set pieces that their sketch requires. Material created by the writer belongs to them, even if they have accepted input from other writers, actors or the director. Dual or Multi authorship should only be addressed when more than one person actively created the idea or wrote/re-wrote the sketch. (e.g. if an actor creates a character and a sketch is written around that character). If you miss too many meetings/rehearsals, the Artistic Director reserves the right to bench you or remove you from the team. You will be performing at the best comedy theatre in the world and we expect hard work and dedication. ACTORS: The following rehearsals/Meetings are mandatory for the Actor to attend. Pitch, Read Through/Actor Rehearsal, 2 Actor Rehearsals & Tech Rehearsal. It is up to the individual team if Writers Meetings 1,2,3  are mandatory for the actor. Actors should be prepared to attend the same amount of meetings as writers (all). Actors must have a minimum of 1 character to pitch for themselves at each pitch meeting. There is no guarantee that your character will be chosen. Actors will not pitch sketch ideas (premises). This is the writers job. Actors must memorize lines in a timely manner. An Actor’s job is to give a polished professional performance. Actors will work with writers on character ideas. You will not write alone or with other actors. We only encourage actor collaboration with writers. If you miss too many meetings/rehearsals, the Artistic Director reserves the right to bench you or remove you from the team. You will be performing at the best comedy theatre in the world and we expect hard work and dedication. Writers/Actors: Responsible for everything a writer or actor would be responsible for. May cast themselves in their sketches, but they must be willing to accept guidance on casting from the Director. Should be writing material for other actors on the team, not just themselves. ALL MEMBERS Responsible for paying monthly dues on time. These dues cover the cost of room rentals and Directors fee. Failure to pay dues on time can result in removal from the team. Responsible for promotion of the show.
